Why is Wind Energy Beneficial?
Wind Energy comes from the kinetic energy in wind. Blowing wind spins the blades on the turbines which turns a generator and transfers the kinetic energy to electrical energy. This source of energy is clean, renewable, and free. Wind energy does not release any pollutants in converting energy and does not contribute to global warming.
Good wind resources are often found in rural areas and since wind turbines occupy minimal surface area, there is a vast amount of room for housing and farming.
Fossil Fuels, such as coal, are of a finite supply and require great work and cost to be extracted from the Earth. Unlike these limited resources, wind creates a boundless supply of energy
Wind energy produces 65 billion kWh worldwide each year, which is enough energy to completely power six million US homes. It creates between 17 and 39 times more power as it consumes, where as coal burning power plants only produce 11 times more power than they consume.
Wind energy is also the least expensive compared to all of the other sources of alternative energy. Turbines convert kinetic energy at about five cents per kilowatt hour. After installation, wind turbines require little cost to maintain and wind power is free.
